Live Long & Prosper

January 4th, 2013 (12:45 am)

I just did my yearly friends' cut of journals that haven't been updated in 3+ months or if we haven't talked in ages. I wish you all the best in the future and thank you for giving me a glimpse into your lives, for however long that lasted <3

I have been known to completely mess this up, so if you are totally baffled as to why you are no longer on my flist, please let me know! Especially if you are a new friend and I idiotically ticked your name, I tried to be careful but as I said, sometimes I get these wrong.

The rest of you, just carry on being awesome.

[2/100] Camping

April 14th, 2012 (10:58 pm)

I'm feeling: calm

Camping for me is mostly about happy childhood memories.

From the age of 3 to 16, I went camping every summer with my family. I loved camping, especially when I went with my maternal grandmother and/or my mom's sisters to a place called Básar. There was so much freedom involved it was intoxicating for my younger self. My grandma and I would take long walks, we'd find wild berries and when I got tired I would put my ear to a big stone and tell her stories about what the elves were up to. Plus, the place was always crawling with other children to play with, new friends to be made around every corner.

After 16 however, I kinda stopped going with them for the most part. I'll go every once in a while but not regularly. The most I've camped since then was the summer I was 20. I spent 6 weeks in a tent in Denmark while picking strawberries. It was a lot of fun and a thankfully (for the most part) rain free and sunny summer. It, however, filled my camping quota for years to come. I can see myself starting camping again in the future though, it's a wonderful way to spend time with great people while enjoying nature.

[1/100] Coffee

April 13th, 2012 (10:56 pm)

I'm feeling: restless

What better way to start off this challenge than to talk about one of my favourite happy making things. Coffee.

Ever since I could remember, I have loved the smell of coffee. It's a comforting smell that has followed me and is something I always connected with the grown ups in my life. When I got a little bit older, my mom would let me dip sugar cubes into her coffee, which I loved and made me feel ever so grown up. Yet I always maintained that I would never start drinking the stuff. Because my mom's little sister, who I idolized as a kid, didn't drink coffee (and still doesn't) and I wanted to be exactly like her.

That, however, didn't last. When I as around 18/19, I started to "experiment" with coffee and after a few tries, I found out that the taste was just as wonderful as the smell. It started a love affair that has been going on for ten years now. There is nothing better in the mornings than a perfect cup of coffee to get those grey cells going. Or in the afternoon, when you still have a few hours left of work but are just about to give up on the whole thing, a cup of coffee can give you the energy you need to finish. And a good meal can be made even better when you end it with a strong, double espresso. Mmmmm *dreamy sigh*

April 12th, 2012 (04:56 pm)

I'm feeling: okay

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

I got inspired to do this by various flisters. I've chosen to do a 100 Things That Have Made Me Happy challenge, because I like talking about various things that are happy making. I've set myself a deadline for the end of summer (or until I go back to school in the fall). Yay!

I'm going to Keflavík today to buy school books and check out my new flat (that I'll be moving into next week!). Please pimp this for me and I hope you are making lots of new friends by the time I get back :)
